Carol Buehler, President
Carol joined the garden in 2017 and has served as the board secretary and treasurer. In May 2024, she became president pro tem. Carol is a native San Diegan and graduate of San Diego State University and is eager to see the garden continue to grow and thrive.

Jessie Carriero, Vice President
Jessie has been a gardener at CACG since 2020 and became a board member in May of 2024. She leads our Cooperative Growing Project and is passionate about sustainability, food justice, and all the ways our garden can benefit the community around us.

Jacob Van Dehy, Treasurer
Jacob has been volunteering at the garden since 2021 and has served as the treasurer since June 2024. He is excited to expand the garden’s sustainability and education programs. He also prioritizes building relationships with other local San Diego gardens to collaboratively grow these programs.

Lynne Bush, Secretary
Lynne has been a CACG member since 2022. After retiring from UCSD, she started volunteering with Forever Balboa Park as a Garden Steward, Tree Maintenance Steward, and Rose Garden Corps member. She has an undergraduate degree in botany and once upon a time cut roses for a living.

Dr. John Love, SDSU Faculty Representative
John is a professor in the SDSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He is also the director of the SDSU Environmental Science program. In that capacity, he mentors many students in their senior thesis research projects. John is also an avid beekeeper and maintains the garden’s hives.

Scott Kelley, Member
Scott is a Professor of Biology at SDSU and has participated in numerous workdays at the garden over the past 2-3 years. Scott worked on the garden’s solitary bee project, both researching and building the nests.

Daniel Pentico, Member
Dan’s professional background encompasses commercial controlled environmental agriculture and hydroponics in their varying capacities. He collaborates with student research groups to advance sustainable agriculture practices, focusing on enhancing nutrient density in hydroponically grown crops. His academic background supports his interdisciplinary approach to controlled environmental agriculture (CEA), where he integrates research, data analysis, and practical innovation to drive meaningful progress in modern farming.

Erika Rodriguez, Member
Erika (they/them) is a professor at SDSU and began volunteering at the garden in the spring of 2024, soon after moving to San Diego from the Twin Cities. In Minneapolis, they were a Father Hennepin Bluff Park steward and helped in the restoration of native plants to the wetlands. Erika has experience developing public-facing educational programming as a former public humanities postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maine and as an intern and museum docent at Washington University in St. Louis's Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum.
